Refurbishment

This project involved extensive refurbishment and additions made to a five storey townhouse in a conservation area of Kensington, London. The brief was to create a high specification five bedroom family home sympathetic to the existing fabric while incorporating modern technology and the comforts of a contemporary home.

Once completed the house was transformed into a very comfortable family house. On entering the front door you encounter a new elliptical stairwell with solid oak treads and views through three floors.

The ground floor consists of a formal drawing room, library and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The upper floors contain guest accommodation and at the top a nursery.

The lower ground floor opens out into a kitchen and family room with a self contained flat for a grandmother or nanny. At the rear of the building an extension underneath the garden and timber deck provides a protected courtyard, perfect for al fresco entertaining in the summer months.

In addition a substantial underground room was constructed, with a cinema, gym, sauna, hot tub and WC. This space aims to be pure indulgence, an urban subterranean retreat with a sense of fun. Above the hot tub is a light well allowing bathers to relax watching the clouds and stars go by.
