HoughtonBudd Architects

HoughtonBudd Architects was established in 2005 by Jane Houghton and Andrew Budd who have over 20 years experience working with both public and private clients.

The work of the practice is typified by an interest in the sensitive combination of form and material; projects are seen as the evolutionary result of a close, personal response to programme, site and budget.

Our work is implicitly site specific, a clients house or site being carefully studied to define a particular character or atmosphere that can be developed in response to the brief. We work in a responsive manner by determining how we can best develop a project by a close reading and interpretation of what already exists.

We believe that this reflective yet pragmatic approach allows the specific and particular aspects of a clients brief to take precedent over all other concerns.

In 2007 We were invited to participate in the annual AJ Kings Cross Charrette sponsored by Argent and in 2008 we were awarded Silver in the RIBA White Rose Awards for our Cairns Road project.

In combination with practice both directors teach at Kingston University School of Architecture.

Working with both undergraduate and postgraduate students has allowed us to further explore the ideas of place, material and programme that inform the work of our practice.
