Open design competition
To design a Panopticon; structure, space or device providing a comprehensive or panoramic view.
The competition was organised by the RIBA and Mid Penine Arts to design a Pantopticon within the East Lancashire countryside. Our design was shortlisted from nearly 200 entries and was subsequently selected as the winner.
The design was based on the evolution of an item to control the view; this principle of evolution was applied to the following titles; object, form and vision.
As pert of the design process we investigated non-conventional building methods and as a result developed a form which is to be constructed in ferro-concrete and have bronze applied to the structure to achieve a hardwearing monolithic form, that is appropriate to its setting.
