Hill Paul, a former cloth factory, was abandoned and left derelict for some 20 years. The building had become increasingly rundown since the cloth company left; glass windows were smashed and buddleia was eroding the walls.
With the threat of a demolition order placed on the building in 2000, the 'Hill Paul Regeneration Committee' was set up by local residents to save the building.
The Hill Paul development has provided 36 flats of varying sizes whilst retaining many original features and upholding much of the traditional character. The existing timber roof was removed and a further two floors were constructed to a modern, yet sympathetic design, providing four luxury penthouse suites.
